Santa Rosa Amgen Tour Stage News
Santa Rosa Amgen Tour Stage News
Ladies and gents, we are down to the wire. Lines are being drawn, favorites are being picked, and work excuses are being concocted. Stage 2 of the Amgen Tour of California is a mere three days away and we will be ready. We’ve got a host of events on tap to keep folks grinning all the live long day, from well before the riders get to town to well after they’re sacked out in their hotel beds. Downtown Santa Rosa is awash in spectating areas and activities, so get out early and plan on a great day around America’s biggest cycling event.

Party like it’s 1999
Highlights of Monday’s activities include . . .
The MBT Lifestyle Expo 11am-4pm
Located in Courthouse Square, the Lifestyle Expo is the place to be for all cycling enthusiasts. Starting at 11 and going on until 4, the festival will feature a health & fitness expo, cancer awareness education, cycling gear, family activities, bike safety, food, entertainment and more. There will be plenty to see and do for everyone in your family, including St. Joseph’s Health System’s Kids Zone. They’ll have displays on kid-friendly street smarts, safe biking routes to schools, and exhibits from the Children’s Museum of the North Bay.
Santa Rosa Festival and Beer Garden 11am-4pm
The City of Santa Rosa is putting on a festival along Third Street between D and E Streets. We’re plopping down a huge beer garden at the end of a street lined with booths and food vendors. Baby Seal Club will play on our event stage from 12:00 to 2:30, so grab a bite and come see the show while you’re waiting for the pros to make the trip from Davis to Santa Rosa. Local bike shops like The Trek Store, Spoke Folk Cyclery, and Cambria Bike Outfitters will be selling bike gear while a variety of cycling and environmental groups will be displaying information and outreach materials. Expect food from the likes of Mary’s Pizza Shack, Johnny Garlic’s, Rubio’s, Pasta King, Willy Birds, Big Boys BBQ, Kettle Corn, Cinnabon, and the Lemonade Stand.
West Coast GoldSprints 3pm-8pm
After the race, Bike Monkey has taken over the intersection of Fourth and D Streets for a Tour Stage After Party. They’ve got stationary GoldSprint racing for anyone looking to go head to head, but not travel too far, a live DJ, and plently of Lagunitas beer on tap. There are local bike exhibitors here as well, including Soulcraft, Sycip Bikes, and Jill B. Nimble Training. Bike Monkey will be giving away more swag than they should, so come on by and take advantage of some of their bad judgment. Stores and restaurants will be open late so that you all can make sure to get a bite and shop ’til your heart’s content. See http://festivus.bikemonkey.net for details.
Don’t forget to stop by the KZST booth on Courthouse Square for a chance to win a freshly signed winner’s jersey. The drawing will be held on the Bike Monkey event stage at 5:30.
Swift Ride
Team Swift Fundraiser Ride to benefit All Sport Team Swift Junior Cycling Development Program. A Debt of Gratitude
Maybe you all haven’t heard, but these aren’t exactly the salad days, economically speaking. And hosting an event like an Amgen Tour of California stage isn’t exactly cheap. There’s emergency services, traffic control, crowd management, event planning, and on and on. Hell, the bathrooms alone are costing thousands. Without the support of community businesses and organizations, it wouldn’t have been possible for the City of Santa Rosa to shoulder these costs. Some folks made a serious financial commitment to seeing this event return to Santa Rosa and without them, well, we sure wouldn’t have much to write about in these email updates.
The diligent fundraising efforts were led by our local Keep the Tour campaign. The following groups have pledged their commitment to this event. Next time you see them, drop a hearty “thanks” their way. They’ve chosen to support their community in a tough time and we couldn’t be more grateful for all that they’ve done:
